I Declare the Games of 2008 Officially Open

Dear Member,

In regards to the planned sneak preview of the Food & Beverage outlets on January 9th, 2008 from 18:30 we unfortunately need to inform you that this event needed to be cancelled. This cancellation is caused due to serious problems in the Club’s kitchens during our testing of the facility. The contractors are now addressing the problems, but they have seriously impacted our ability to operate our F&B outlets and banqueting in accordance to provide the appropriate service to our members.

The General Manager will send out to all members within today a detailed message in regards of the general opening of the Club.

We very much regret in not offering to you this special event. A special present will be provided from the F&B team to you at your next visit at the Club.

Thank you very much for your understanding and continuous support.

Your Food & Beverage Team

..and hot on the heels of that comes this..should be the best Games ever.

Dear Member,

On behalf of Tokyo American Club's Food & Beverage teams, I would like to thank you for completing the recent Membership Satisfaction Survey. While the overall result for 2007 was extremely positive for the Club, only 78 percent of Members who completed the survey said they were satisfied with the service provided by the Food & Beverage Department.

In an effort to achieve our goal of 90-percent satisfaction by 2010, we are working closely with the hospitality consultants Challenges V. The company's president, Bill Hurley, will be conducting three focus groups on January 17, January 18 and January 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

We would be grateful if you could attend one of these sessions to offer your thoughts on the Club's Food & Beverage operations. In return for your participation, you will enjoy a complimentary three-course dinner.

If you would like to attend, please fill out the details below and e-mail them to Yukari Sekino at yukari.sekino@tac-club.org.

Thank you for your efforts in helping us make Tokyo American Club the premier international club in Asia. If you would like to contact me in person, I can be reached at 090-7869-2800.

Yours faithfully,

So if I understand this correctly: The first milestone ie moving to the new premises has 'serious problems' and there will be delays in opening.

Quite an auspicious start, wouldn't you say?

But hey, it's OK we will get a special present next time we visit the club (which is not open to visit).

How can this be the responsibility of management when everything is going on in a foreign language?

Afterall the kitchen is there...how are they to know that nothing is connected to anything?

Menus are all done..all that is required is for someone to put in a call to the gas company...oh and also get some staff to man the kitchen.

All under control now that the GM is on the case and the contractors have been admonished...

Dear Tokyo American Club Members,

Your new Takanawa club is opening as scheduled on Friday, January 11th. All recreation facilities are fully operational, except the Spa, which was announced as a February 1 opening.

While three of the five dining outlets were due to open on the first day, this has been delayed due to a technical problem in the kitchens. The contractors are now addressing the issues. As we hope you can appreciate, our goal is to provide the most complete service possible while insuring the quality of our food and a suitable, safe environment for our food preparation.

As a result from Friday January 11th, a limited food menu will be available in the Foreign Trader’s Bar from 8:00am – 10:00pm and Vineyards will offer beverage service only from 10:00am – 10:00pm. Members and guests of all ages will be welcome in these outlets at this time.

We have informed contractors that our target is to have all F&B operations open from Monday January 14th. As of now, that schedule is being evaluated and we will advise the membership when the revised schedule is clear.

We certainly regret this inconvenience and are making every effort to both solve the problem and find alternative service in the interim.

Sincerely,

Michael A. Bumgardner, CCM
General Manager

Well..why am I surprised.

'TAC-The Final Frontier' is an appropriate re-name for all of us that grew up with Star Trek and the various incarnations of the word 'management' at TAC.

Let me make one prediction...if the voters are willing to go with Bush, Clinton, Bush, Bush and Clinton then then TAC will go down the toilet...and who are any of us to criticise any other country that 'votes' in oligarchies.
We get the governments we deserve..and that includes TAC.

I am currently writing Chapter11 of the TAC Articles ...to be incorporated at the funeral.

If January is a precursor of things to come, TAC will run out of cash well before the new club is even part built...unless they get rid of some of the high priced dross.
