Breach of Privacy
All TAC Members will have recently received a mailing from Mitsubishi Estate Company , "on behalf of the American Club", that in part was gathering marketing info for MEC's Condos at the new TAC Azabudai site.
It would appear that the mailing from MEC has been enabled via access to private information, i.e. names and addresses of Club Members. Further, as the cover note states this mailing is "with the support of the Tokyo American Club", the Management/leadership of the Club almost certainly provided MEC with your information. It is also possible, though unlikely, that MEC got hold of a Membership Directory somehow without management/leadership knowledge and used it for this purpose. In either case, Members private information has been shared with, and used by MEC for their own commercial purposes.
Apart from the potential illegality of such an action, this is also a clear breach of the regulation restricting the use of the membership directory information "to the exclusive and private noncommercial use of members" ( see p.1 of the Directory). This regulation has been enforced in the past, and was the basis of disciplinary action against a Member.
You can make a formal complaint, as provided for in the Rules, to the General Manager. This is up to each individual member should this be of concern.
It will take more than one Member to act in order for the Management and Board of the Club to take this matter seriously and stop sharing our private data with MEC and other organizations that come knocking.
This apparent breach of our privacy should not be allowed to go unnoticed.

So the question in my mind 'Is there a written agreement to supply this information as part of the development or did this just happen over a meeting and coffee, err oolongcha'?
If the former, then Management knowingly breached their own rules.
Get a life! I was at the meetings where the project was discussed and was among the many members who asked specifically to make sure TMT solicited the views of members before designing the condos. Surely there are more important issues to focus on instead of complaining stupidly about having received a mailing asking your opinion on something that might be of interest. Chuck it in the bin Mate!
Well Mate...that's a pretty cavalier management response. The Club has privacy rules for a reason. Perhaps management types such as yourself could get off your fat arses and coordinate the questionnaire and protect members' personal information and at the same time the rules of the Club
The bigger issue here is if the Management and leadership are willing to flout their own rules and probably the Japan Privacy Laws to support Mitsubishi...two and a half years before the new Club is opened, just what is the boundares to the Clubs support for our "Partner"?? We have already broken our Rules...what is next? Free Access for tenants??
Interesting that our Club leadership feel bound to help one of the biggest Corporations in the world.
Arghhh! Matey, you skewer me unjustly. I am not a member of management or part of any committee. I am an ordinary member and was in the audience during the presentation. I voted for the project and do remember other members asking for info on the condos.
